Expect The Unexpected

This is banking.

One moment you were minding your own business, doing your daily work and the next moment, you were told that branch manager from another branch will pull 3 over.

Then BAM!! You were one of them. You were told to pack up and report to your new branch the next day.

Shocked. I was definitely confused. I love my colleagues from the previous branch. We were close and we definitely bonded like family. Whenever I was demoralized, I could turn to Edmund, who was always there to guide me along. Whenever I was down, there was Sek Ling, who was like a dearest sister. And there was Nat, who never fails to make you laugh. And the backroom ppl, who were always there to cover up for your little mistakes here and there. I guess the consolation is that my 2 best buddies are going with me.

Jurong is like home, comfortable as it is, I'm now going to the real world out there. I know that this is a great opportunity for career progression. And as Edmund says it's a good path that was planned for me.

I'm reporting to Bukit Timah from now on.

I'll never forget the Jurong guys. Keep in touch.

Last post was 30 August and that was freaking 3 months ago.

Cause of this? WORK!

Hell, yes! Almost 12 hours everyday and (here I go again) lots & lots of challenges and dilemmas. I shall not go into what I've come across so far but I'm still happy, of course, cause I see where I'm heading to.

DnD was held few weeks ago at Suntec Convention Hall. Lots of fun definitely! And I shall let the pictures do the talking...

Sis enrolled Lion (Yes, that's my dog's name.. But I didn't name him!) in a Fastest Eater Competition organized by Singapore Kennel Club at Expo over the weekend. Friends who have seen him at my place will never ever doubt his speed man!

And yes.. he came in 2nd! Haha!

Yeap, we're hard at work. Training is definitely tedious.. which is why we never let go of any chance to have fun.

We had 3 days off on Week 5 as our dear trainer hurt his leg. Still required to report to work but we surely know how to "utilize" our precious time.. Hee Hee..

So, whose work can be as relaxed as ours??!! Haha..

Eversince I got to know Geoffrey, I've been putting on weight (Thanks to him and I mean it la!). Reason being.. he's been bringing us everywhere for nice food. Hence, every week, one clique of us will have dinner at a designated place. Last week, it was Samba Brazilian Steakhouse Churrascaria at Katong Village.

Brazilian BBQ buffet and chefs would serve different types of meat and skewers from which they slice portions onto the plate. My personal favourite would be the Beef Topside with Garlic (Alcatra Alho). Yummy!

Dinner's great... and as expected, we went for our usual chill-outs. This time, Geoffrey brought us to Blue Jazz. Nice ambience for frenz to catch up.

2 Cleared! 4 More To Go!

I cleared my 2nd paper on Friday. Really glad that things are going rather smoothly. 4 more major papers to go, though next week's gonna have TONS of internal tests every single day. I didn't study hard during my uni days so now I'm paying every single bit back. Haha.

After the exam, some were happy to have cleared, but some were feeling restless as they had to retake. Despite this, all were spotaneous enough to drop by Ice Cold Beer for a quick drink.
I would say my bunch of colleagues are really good drinkers, unlike me. Friends who know me really well will know that I'm the most terrible drinker. Hee Hee. Though I can never keep up with the number of drinks they had, it was a rather good bonding session.

Perhaps, cafes and places to chill are the in thing now. You can never seem to miss that out on your itinerary for any gatherings. Dave brought the s04 gang to this nice place along Devonshire Road.

Nice ambience, nice band and the nicest company. What else are you missing out in life? =)

Home on a Tuesday Afternoon..

Very surprised to see me blogging on a Tuesday afternoon?

I'm on mc for two days.. which is why I could find time to do some blogging.

3rd week into training and I would say I'm starting to get used to it. Afterall, I'm doing what I normally do in school, attending classes and studying for exams.

Trainer always repeat this "You guys better enjoy while u can, life's gonna be hell when you are deployed to your branches".

Oh man! -_-"

Sometimes, classes can get quite boring, and on several occassions, I spotted my colleague falling asleep! Haha, Desmond, I'm gonna blackmail u!!

Last week, one segment of our training program requires us to mystery shop. It was fun and exciting but when you are actually doing it, you can get real nervous! And we realize that it was so damn difficult to lie!! Though we gave ourselves away, still, it was something different to experience. =)

Will be going back to work tomorrow. And, it's another brand new day.

Yup Yup. Still kicking and alive. Haha.

For all you know, I've started my training for a week.

I would say, not easy.

Honestly.

And, seriously.

Now, I do understand why 2 months of training are needed. Prior to this, I did not expect my job scope to encompass so much stuffs to learn. There are so many things you have to know, so many criterias to memorize, so much calculations to do and a lot of things to expect from when you are officially on the job.

On top of that, we will be tested once training on one product is over and I freaked out when I learned that passing is not 50, but 80! Being so used to the bell curve grading in NUS, it's disappointing to know that the real world is bell-curve-no-more! Which means, pass means pass, fail means fail. Hence, even though I had bid farewell to all my textbooks, I went back to them again every night after work. (Yes, coming from Chia Wei Ling!) Adding to the load, I need to clear 6 MAS papers within these 2 months. Yes, more studying again.

I still feel like an undergrad.

Enough of rants, now the positive things. Colleagues are great! Fun, friendly, nice bunch. People from all walks of life. Those in the managerial positions are nice enough to share with me what I have to expect, know and do. Trainer, very charismatic guy - He's really good & knows everything at the back of his hand. I can understand why he's so successful in this line.

To be honest, I would say I have underestimated my job scope and the amount of stress I will be facing. But no worries, I am enjoying. Challenges add value to my life. =)

I chose this path, I'll finish it victoriously.

I'm undefeated.

The SDE convocation was held on 11 July 2007. It was a special day for me.

I wasn't the brightest student in the cohort, neither am I the most hardworking undergrad professors would deem. Seeing the valedictorian giving his speech (even though it's not that steady pom pee pee) but somehow the thought that "I should have studied harder.." came to my mind. I guess that's what many of us would think but nevertheless, I am still proud that I have graduated.

These 4 years of university life are full of the most dramatic ups and downs of my entire life. And, it changed me.

I felt excitement when I first entered university, not knowing what it has in store for me.

I was blessed with many good friends - really really good friends -throughout the 4 years knowing that they are always there for me.

I made the wisest decision to join CBLC - of which all of us were like a big family in that small little club.

I went through tremendous pain when I put on my braces - lost 7 kg and never got it back.

Started coming into contact with the real world.

Encountered lots and lots of frustration over projects and projects and projects.

Became super duper vocal after presentations and presentations and presentations.

Experienced the greatest amount of stress during the last year for my thesis - I guess it was much worse for Prof Liow. My gratefulness goes to him.

Was hit by the greatest blow and collapsed for a period of time. But I stood up again and moulded myself - nothing brings me down now.

Greatest sense of satisfaction comes from my thesis and marketing role.

Slept over the most number of times at a place other than my own home - YIH CBLC.

Received my first and only A+ - I'm easily contented.

Embarked on my first overseas internship to Shanghai.

Took up the challenge to go on my first ever YEP trip to Laos and bonded with the nicest people.

And finally, at the end of 4 years, hope found its way to me and made me realize that life's indeed wonderful.

Life is like a box of chocolates.. you never know what you're gonna get.

These 4 years are unique and special. Every event, every moment moulded me into who I am today. There may be things that I should not have done or things that I ought to do, but on the whole, it's been a wonderful 4 years.

I call us the Shanghai Clique because the 4 of us are the "tightest" as compared to the rest whom we hang out with when we were in Shanghai. So lucky to have met them there when I went Shanghai for a 3-month internship and I was glad I wasn't alone. The 4 of us went Beijing and Hangzhou together and you can imagine how much fun we had back then! Now that I recalled, one year has passed.. Time and tide wait for no man..

One year ago in Shanghai, when we met up for dinner every now and then, we were dressed in working clothes (internship only). But frenz, this time round, it's for real. Haha!

Saw the comment by Mr Isaac Zheng and realized that it has been some time since I update my blog. So.. without further ado, here's what happened in my life over the past month..

Back from Laos

Life was good in Laos. I would say it was a fantastic 3 weeks of retreat. We did things we have never done before, ate stuffs we had never eaten before and lots of fun especially during RnR. Strong bond within the team was created and not forgetting the creation of our "Kelvin's Lingo Phrasebook" (The team will know this well). Photos were uploaded in my photobucket album (See previous entry), and well, still uploading cos there were simply too many pics!

MILK RUN 2007 - 1st July 2007

MILK is not interpreted literally as the drink you get from cows (that's what Mr Gerard Tay thought). It stands for "Mainly I Love Kids" and is a charity run to raise funds for under-previledged kids. The few of us from SDE participated in the community run. The run was only 4Km but the number of people was beyong 10,000. Hence, it took us quite some time to move to the starting point.

YEP Laos 22 May - 12 June 2007

I'll be leaving for Laos in a few hours' time on a 6am flight to Vientiane. Hope to take many beautiful pictures and upload them here. Preparation for Laos is tough, with many fund-raising events such as soccer fiesta, car washing etc. But I believe the trip will be a memorable one.

CBLC 15th MC Farewell Outing

15th MC had been the best and most enjoyable MC I've been in. CBLC had been the first place that came to our minds after every lesson, for our meal times, camping place for mugging as well as for entertainment programs. We worked hard to make CBLC an outstanding standing comm and had definitely enjoyed every single projects during the one year. Gonna miss all of them.

This year, we held a 3-day activity and camped over at YIH for our farewell outing.

Prof Sim shared 3 lessons with us during the SDE Farewell Tea through a simple story. She probably wanted us to remember the 3 lessons when we are out there in 2 months' time. Kind of true so hope to share with everyone. Here's the story:

A little bird was flying in the winter, froze, died and fell to the ground. Then, a cow came by and shitted on it. Although the little bird was covered with all the shit, it received warmth from it and revived. Given another chance to live again, the little bird was so happy that it started singing out loud. A cat heard the singing and came. It pulled the little bird out of the pile of shit and ate it.

So, what lessons can we learn from the story?

1. The one who puts you in deep shit may not be your enemy.
2. The one who pulls you out of the shit may not be your friend.
3. When you are in deep shit, please keep quiet.

Mun is currently taking part in a beauty pageant and the photoshoot is scheduled this morning at 9am. As sistas in SDE, it is hence my obligation to provide some form of help (Don't worry, I did not bribe the judges) to ensure that she stands out from the other 9 finalists. So, I stayed over at her house the night before and woke up at an amazing time of the day when birds are still asleep and worms are thankful for half hour more of lifespan.

An update of what Wei Ling had been doing in the past 51 days

It has been ages since I last blogged.. 51 days to be precise. Well, what was Wei Ling occupied with for the last 51 days? Here's a quick update:

Adobe Workshops

Was busy with the Adobe workshops for the past 3 months. The publicity stuffs, membership registrations, co-ordination, post workshops follow-up issues etc... Although Mr Tay kept saying that I'm like a cheap labour doing all these (Yeap understand his kind intentions), I seriously do not feel that way. Firstly, I feel proud that CBLC is able to undertake such project with Adobe. Secondly, it is my responsibilty to ensure that CBLC deliver what we have promised in return for their sponsorship. Lastly, by doing a good job, I hope that CBLC will find more sponsorships coming their way in the long run. Hence, I can tell you that I enjoyed the process, not a chore at all! =)

Nope, not a part-time job. How can this face be one???!!!! Well, sorry for such a shock (or rather a laughing stock! Haha!), but yes, I did lend a helping face for a friend's make-up exam. Yes, I was there! No, not because I was mesmerized by Diya's voice or Darren's looks, but because Yuan Song had tickets (His gf is working for one of the sponsors for the program). So, the six of us - Jay, Mun, Ban, Wei Jun, Pei Qi and me went to have a "feel". Took some pics with my phone. Apparently it wasn't very clear. The atmosphere was really high as the fans were very much on fire. I did enjoy~!

Dissertation HOrror!!!

The dissertation horror has befallen on Prof Liow & Wei Ling for the past 3 months. Both parties suffered internal injuries during this excruciating period, with more serious injuries inflicted on Prof Liow. Hee hee. It finally ended on 29 February!! Yeah!! But I heard some brave souls still have not submitted theirs to date (10 marks deducted by now, and a straight F in a few days' time).

Perfectionists? Slackers-to-the-max? Beats me. But I salute you!

3rd March - Cuthbert invited us to his house

Ah Bird invited the SDE people to his house for CNY as well as to celebrate our submission of dissertation on 29 February. Held a steamboat (Thanks Ah Bird, we didn't pay a single cent) and mahjong session at his 2nd home (Yea, rich kid).

Youth Expedition Project - Laos

I have been selected for the YEP Laos Project. Duration of trip from 22 May - 12 June. A total of 3 weeks. Currently, meetings were held every Saturday mornings to plan and prepare for this trip with 19 other members. Our objective is to set up a library management system for the kids in Nong Duang Village. A pity Lao Da had to withdraw due to reservist. I'm in the Fund Raising Team, hence I'll come up with several events to raise fund for this project. On our list is the Street Soccer Tournament held on 5th May at NUS SRC. Wei Ling aspires to be a disciplined nerd!

Yes, you have read correctly! A slacker for 7 semesters has decided (a pact) that she will be a disciplined nerd for the 8th and last semester in her 4 years of university education. Well, she has come to realize that actions do speak louder than words. Hence, to start off, she went back to school on weekends (all by herself to make sure she won't be interrupted by gossips or long chats) to study!! I know you won't believe this, but hang on! I've got proof!

To top it off with another "shock", Wei Ling has been running for the past few nights! Yeap! I've often heard that running clears the mind and aids in cramming for exams, I'm trying that out so will update you guys if it works. Requires lots of discipline though, but I'm proud to say that I'm doing good! =)

Hmm.. it's been a looong update.. Haha! I guess I'll end it off here. 2 more months and Wei Ling will be entering a new phase in life called - The Working World! I'm not sad over it nor fear its coming, on the contrary, I'm looking forward to it! I believe it encompasses new surprises and challenges for me.

My first post in 2007.

Getting kind of busy with school work, cca, career planning and many other things coming along the way. 2007 is a year full of hope and perhaps, excitement. Things were different from the way it used to be, mindsets were changed from the way it used to think and directions in life became so much clearer. What do I hope to achieve, what are the steps needed to get there... I ran through all these questions in 2007.

Looking back at 2006.. I've looked back too many times. I used to wish that I could turn back time and erase all the unhappy memories, wipe away all the tears and put a smile to everything I've come across. But no. I'm glad I've been through all.

People says that facing obstacles change u - stronger and more courageous. The Wizard of Oz came to my mind. The tin-man needed a heart - compassion. The scarecrow needed a brain - wisdom. And the cowardly lion needed courage. They went off to see the Wizard to get what they needed, but he taught them that they all had those qualities inside themselves already. The obstacles didn't change me, it merely brought out the strength and courage I already had to fight them off. I'm proud of tat and I can safely say, nothing can bring me down again.

2007 will be different, I tell myself. And I will make it happen.

Started asking around this little quiz this morning.. I was so surprised that Gerard solved it so quickly!!! Ok, here goes..

There are supposedly 10 eggs (each weighing 1g) in 10 boxes. However, one of the boxes had 10 eggs that weighed 0.9g each.

So, to summarize:
9 boxes have 10 eggs X 1.0g
1 box has 10 eggs X0.9g

Now, you are given a weighing machine and you may only weigh the eggs once.

Your task: Find out which box contained the 0.9g eggs.

Clue: You have to take the eggs out of the boxes to weigh them.

Watched The Buddy Holly Story today. Triggers a strong feeling of nostalgia for Rock 'n Roll music, though I don't belong to that era. Shot in 1978, portrays the life story of rock musician, Buddy Holly, who died at age 22.

Gary Busey is good! He actually performs live for every song in the film! He deserves an Oscar!

I'm back for a week and life started getting busy. Thesis is a big headache and there are many stuffs to settle for CBLC's new batch of members.

Guess I'm gonna update on my Shanghai internship another time, along with my Beijing and Hangzhou trip. Hard to post everything in one entry.

Internship is definitely meaningful and I'll never forget the people who shaped a part of my life there.

Leaving for Shanghai in a few hours' time.. Will be going there for internship @ Jones Lang Lasalle for 2 months +.. Guess it'll be a good experience and something different to expose myself to...

I don't like airports, especially the departure hall.. Somehow, departure hall is a sad place for many people.. it's sad for people whose loved ones are leaving, sad for people who never expected things to change once they enter that gate..

Most frenz I came across, told me that lives were different once they entered that gate (be it better or worse). Though this trip is a short 2 & half months, somehow, I hope that life will be different for me too. I bring along a positive mindset, hoping not only to seek enlightenment in certain issues in my life, but also to be a stronger person than before.

Meanwhile, there won't be any posts till August beacuse China blocks blogs. I'll update once I'm back. Say hi when u see me online =)

Why would somebody call herself that?? Because... here's the story..

A gal named mE was studying and doing lots of research for her paper the night before her exam. As usual, she did not sleep a wink as it was a 9am paper. She intends to sleep when she goes home after the paper. Morning came and she packed her notes and went school for the exam.

When Miss mE reached her school, she took out her organiser to check her seat number. Then, this is what she saw:

Her reaction?? It was !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going Beyond Who You Are

I'm undergoing a training course on "Going Beyond your Maximum Level of Patience" with my Pri one kid.

A very effective trainer, he is. You get to learn to break through your level 10 (which is max already) when you spend your every week with him. Here's wat he tested me on:

1) You talk to him VERY NICELY, he rolled his eyes, closed them and simply ignored you.
2) He ran out IMMEDIATELY upon hearing a phone call, when you are going thru the books halfway.
3) He throws a tantrum on the floor when his 10-min attention span is up.
4) He cries and say he's tired when he doesnt feel like learning, and that is EVERY week.
5) You get the "Hmm.. I'm not scared of my parents ok?" response when you try to threaten.
6) Rules are laid. That is, you can't touch him.

Week after week, you find that you are able to break through your max level of patience. You become a nicer person, your tolerance level went up few more levels and slowly, you become so good tempered.

Last but not least, you become smarter as well. Guess what, I found MY way to handle this kid.

I like to thank him for moulding me into a better person.

Didn't really sleep last night, cos I was rushing through some research for today's paper.. But still, wasnt determined enough so went for a "short nap" in the middle of the night..

Had the same dream for the past few weeks.. Almost every night, I had the same/similar dream.. It was exactly what I will love it to happen.. But when you wake up from it, you realise that dream and reality are completely different..

If I can only have one wish in this entire lifetime, I'd wish that I'll NEVER wake up from that dream..

Back from my first paper, and this is what I want to say:

To you-know-who: Ok, I'm losing the bet, you're in for your buffet treat!

Gastric pain acting up again.. arghh.. or is it stomach flu?? Well, I'm not sure either, all I know is it's painful.. I seem prone to having gastric pain and stomach flu..

The last time I had stomach flu was at YIH.. Vomitted like 6, 7 times throughout the night.. Imagine you sleep halfway, then need crawl out of your sleeping bag, unlock the door, run down the flight of stairs, to the toilet and vomit into the basin!! Try doing this for 6-7 times!
Luckily KK was there.. But the pain seem to go away after I received a comforting call.. Well, that's what they call it.. The Power of Love.

Now, I need the Power of Food + a Power Nap!! =) Study hard!

It's 3am, just back from movie, Eight Below. Picked that because I simply wanted to watch the dogs only. Haha..
How I wish I own one of them =) Recalled that I used to be afraid of dogs.. cos was chased by one when I was young. But, came into constant contact with dogs for the past 2 years cos a good friend of mine is a dog lover. His love for dogs kind of influenced me, and helped me to overcome my fear for dogs. They are really lovable.

Regrets

I mentioned about not having regrets. But inevitably, I realise I have plenty of regrets.

I regretted slacking in Secondary 3 & 4, ended going to PJC after O's.
I regretted not studying hard for my A levels, hence I had to take a 2nd time.
I regretted not giving my best in year 1, and had the lowest cap ever throughout the semesters.
I regretted not being understanding enough to someone I love the most.
I regretted quarrelling every now and then, whenever he took the effort to make a call back.
I regretted not being independent enough, hence giving so much pressure to the one I love.
I regretted not being supportive enough to his dreams and goals.

However, I found something that I have not regretted at all.

I have never regretted loving and giving my all to the one I love. This person will always have a special place in my heart, definately. I want to tell him, I'm sorry. If I ever have the chance, I'll make sure he'll be the happiest guy on earth.

It's time I move on.

May our paths meet once again.

Complicated Minds

I feel that minds are too complicated. People who know me well say I think too much. But frankly, who don't? Everyone think a lot, in fact sometimes too much. We thought that by thinking a lot, we are preparing ourselves well for the future. We think that by thinking hard, we would have answers to what we want. We assume that it will lead us onto the right paths. A friend once told me, why make things so complicated? Why do we have to think so hard? Why can't life be simpler? Why not live life as if we have no tomorrow? What happens if, in the process of thinking, the person dies tomorrow, or the subject is gone forever? Indeed, humans have complicated minds. We think hard because we do not want regrets, but ironically, it often leads us onto the paths of regrets.

My dear friends, don't regret. Cherish what you have and live life like there's no tomorrow.

Life is strange. People say you make choices in life. But sometimes, they tell you that you don't have a choice.

Some people choose to give things up easily because they think it should be the way. But there are certain things in life that I still believe in. Some say I'm just being sturborn, others call me "tee kee", while some simply think I'm naive. They tell me that I don't have a choice. But call me silly, I still choose to believe. I choose to have faith in the things I believe in. I never want to give these up.
